The Giant's Map
The Giant’s Map by Mike Mearls is a short adventure designed for use with Ruins of Intrigue from Malhavoc Press. It is written for a party of four 2nd-level adventurers. The Test of Time
The Test of Time is a very short scenario designed to start off an Arcana Evolved campaign and bring all the player characters (PCs) together. It is designed for 1st-level characters who do not know each other and just happen to be in the right place at the right time-or, perhaps, the wrong place at the wrong time.

The adventure springs from the dragons’ return as detailed in Arcana Evolved and includes new concepts introduced in that book, including the ritual warrior and the dracha race. It is likely to encompass a single session of your game (the first one, obviously) and offers a way for a group of characters to assemble and form bonds without resorting to such tactics as, "You all meet in a tavern and are hired to. . .

The Severed Oath
The village of Belleron lies west of the Harrowdeep and east of the Bitter Peaks. When the giants warred with the dramojh, they fought a great battle near the village. Many heroes among the giants fell in the struggle, and they were buried in stone barrows nearby. The villagers of Belleron, overjoyed at their liberation, swore an oath to watch over these graves and let none disturb them.

Each year the people of Belleron have renewed this promise to keep the graves safe from robbers. They perform a ritual to swear on oath upon an object called the oathsphere, a metal orb scribed with runes of vigilance, fidelity, and debt. This sphere remains within the main barrow and serves as a potent symbol of the village’s oath. Recently, that oath has been broken. A treacherous harrid and the villainous Order of the Broken Blade broke into the burial mound and stole the item. With the barrows violated and their oath broken, the villagers are doomed unless someone can recover the oathsphere and repair the pact.

This adventure, which debuted as a tournament at Gen Con Indy 2004, is designed for 5th-level characters using the Monte Cook’s Arcana Unearthed variant player’s handbook. Run The Severed Oath at a convention, as a demo game, or as a one-shot for your gaming group. The free 25-page downloadable file contains the adventure plus battle sheets for the DM and six optional pre-generated characters. Between Life and Death
Between Life and Death,
by Monte Cook is an adventure intended to be used as an introduction to Monte Cook’s Arcana Unearthed/Evolved for 5th-level characters. In it, you’ll find everything you need to get started. The adventure assumes that the DM has read Arcana Unearthed and is fairly familiar with the material. The players do not need to have read the book, but should be familiar with 3rd Edition rules (or 3.5).

Iron Heroes Free Adventures

In the Arena of the Snake Cult

In the Arena of the Snake Cult by Mike Mearls is a short Iron Heroes demo run at Gen Con Indy, but it’s also great for home use to introduce your players to the Iron Heroes game, or for any convention you’re attending. It can accommodate up to six players.

This scenario uses six sample 5th-level player characters; a separate download offers sheets of tokens for use with their token abilities. If you want to run this demo as a convention event, it is built to take roughly a half hour (or a little more). You could also set it up as the climactic encounter of an ongoing campaign.
